The rubbers and plastics and tubes and metal pipes used for FUEL have been on occasion so in appropriate that they have failed within months or the first year.

Additionally on five to ten year old cars(noted on W211) the seal rings on the petrol tank itself tend to collapse after which heavy leakage tends to take place while filling the tank to the top. Customers have almost set entire petrol stations on fire and entire rear seat compartments have filled with petrol. On checking it was found that the tops of the tank were as good as open due to collapsed O rings.

On checking it was found that various cars had a history of incorrect O rings but due to shame on such a serious lapse no proper recall has ever been carried out. The topic is mostly unknown to customers as a design/manufacturing defect but we have found campaigns which prove full knowledge of this issue on the inside.

An information and inspection campaign is badly needed as cars age and become time bombs.

Cracks in petrol tanks are also categorized as wear and tear and customers are asked to fit new tanks.
